GSM MODEM FOR ELECTRICITY METERS

Aplein Ingenieros, S.A. and the British firm TECHNOLOG have reached an agreement for distribution in Spain of the GSM modem, model CELLO EM, for remote reading of electricity meters for both the commercial and the industrial sectors, being compatible with the main meters on the market.

The CELLO EM is a low operating cost alternative to the traditional PSTN and X25 modems. Among the main characteristics are the possibility of automatic system disconnect / reconnect, disconnect administration by call, remote notification of the output current and confirmation of signal strength.

Alternatively, the CELLO EM can be programmed to periodically interrogate the meter and transmit the data by means of an SMS message. This operating mode has been designed to make use of the advantageous rates for sending SMS messages and the high reliability of SMS transmission versus data or GPRS calls in areas with poor coverage.

Among the main characteristics we find: dual band (900/1800 MHz), easy to install, data and alarm notifications via SMS, integrated antenna with no need for cables, compact size that allows it to be fitted under the cover of most meters, 10-year average life of the battery, low cost. The CELLO EM is directly compatible with the following meters, with no need for external power supply or adapters:

• Elster / ABB Vision Meters with RS232.

• Actaris / Schlumberger Indigo+ Meter.

• PRI Premier Meter.

• Other meters with DB25 pin connection port and DC supply.

Using simple cable adapters, supplied with the unit, the CELLO EM can be used with other meters with several types of powered communication, RS232 type:

• Actaris SL7000, DC3 and DC4 Meters.

• Email Metering Q4 and Q5 Meters.

• Cewe Prometer Meter with RS232.

An external power source and interface adapters can be supplied for the following meters:

• Elster / ABB Alpha with RS232.

• Elster A140 and similar.

• Actaris DC3 and DC4 with RS232.

• EDMI Ek6 and similar.

• Siemens / L&G ZMC, ZxD and similar.
