ACTUATIONS OF APLEIN INGENIEROS, S.A. CONTROL
ROOM OF MEXICO CITY WATER SYSTEM. (SISTEMA DE AGUAS DE LA CIUDAD DE
MÉXICO - SACM)
From January 2003, when the Decentralized Public Organisation “Sistema
de Aguas de la Ciudad de México” (SACM) came into operation
after the merger of the General Bureau for Hydraulic Construction and
Operation (DGCOH) and the Federal District Water Board (CADF), the object
has been to create the most appropriate mechanisms to provide the means
to achieve an efficient distribution of the Mexico City water services,
as well as the modernization of the systems for its operation.
The SACM is sectored in the Secretariat of the
Environment and its objective is to furnish the public services of drinking
water supply, drainage, sewer system, treatment and reclamation of waste
waters; operate, maintain and build the hydraulic infrastructure; operate,
utilise, make use of the waters, the distribution and control thereof,
as well as the conservation of their quantity and quality.
Within this modernization, APLEIN INGENIEROS, S.A. has delivered a display
system with which the operability has been improved in the macro-measurement
control room.
We interviewed Humberto Martiñón (Macro-Measurement Manager)
of SACM.
What is the purpose of the Control Room?
To have constantly updated information in order
to take the most opportune and convenient decisions.

What made you opt for the solution presented
by APLEIN INGENIEROS, S.A.?
The solution you presented is the most complete
and that which best adapts to our needs, but we must also point out
the patience you had until obtaining all the measurements available
from the hydrometric sectors.
What is the immediate benefit for the Centre?
Giving an image of quality to all the users of
the different applications that we have in the Mexico City Water System.
From the operational and control point
of view, what parameters can be monitored? Have the operation and supervision
applications been integrated?
In sectors we can monitor the consumption, upstream
and downstream pressures, start and stop pumps in wells, dosage of sodium
hypochlorite, and of course the supervision application is of great
importance in hydrometric sectors and in tanks, openings in drainage
systems, meteorological stations, drinking water wells, water blocks.
Do you think it would be useful to install
these systems with the same technology in other Control Rooms where
the requirements and activities are round the clock, of the type 24-hours
a day, 365-days a year?
One more is necessary, which would be dedicated
exclusively to control of the systems in real time, for which we have
already discussed with yourselves.
