PROJECTS CARRIED OUT BY APLEIN INGENIEROS, S.A. CONTROL CENTER OF THE BESÓS WASTE WATER TREATMENT PLANTS ![]() APLEIN INGENIEROS, S.A. has delivered and installed the multimedia display system for the new control room of the Besós Waste Water Treatment Plant which, with its new centralized control system, has become one of the technologically advanced purification systems at the present time. We interviewed Mr. Joan de la Creu (Responsible for the control systems) What is the main function of the control room in the Besós Treatment Plant? The control room is the point where all the information is brought together in real time from the process operations taking place in the purification plant, as well as monitoring any faults and alarms that could arise and responding to any emergency that requires immediate intervention. The control room is also the centralizing point of the camera system for plant access surveillance, as well as of the cameras specifically positioned for the control of certain parts of the process. What benefits has the installation of the video-projection wall delivered by APLEIN INGENIEROS, S.A. signified in the control, supervision and surveillance functions? In the former control room we had a tile synoptic system installed with LEDs indicating the status of the main machines, together with some analogue displays showing process readings. The previous synoptic function was the same as that of the new mural installation, but the great difference between one system and the other is that with the new one the images are much more adapted to our requirements, because the system is much more versatile. The information shown can be changed continually, be this at the level of alarms, readings or the status of the machines, etc. This is possible because the information that appears is part of the SCADA system installed in the PC that controls the mural, so that to add any reading, alarm or status, it is only necessary to add it in the PC and the change is already made. It also allows us to visualize other systems, like the cameras, graphics, etc. In a word, any application that works with Windows. Do
you think that the installation of video-projection systems with the same
technology and the same screen size would be of interest in all the waste
treatment plants to achieve technological uniformity in all them?It would be interesting to have a system with these characteristics not just in waste treatment plants, but in any plant that requires centralized surveillance and supervision point, be it of this size or any other, which would depend on the needs of each particular process and on the control systems implemented in each case.
