APLEIN INGENIEROS, S.A. OPERATIONS EMASESA CONTROL CENTRES

EMASESA (Empresa Municipal Abastecimiento y Saneamiento de Aguas de Sevilla – Municipal Company for the Supply and Purification of Water in Seville), is a limited company belonging to the Seville Council, and provides services for the management and administration of all the stages involved in the water cycle.

APLEIN INGENIEROS, S.A. has provided EMASESA with four wall-mounted, video-projection units for its control rooms in its central offices-Escuelas Pías and its waste water processing plants at Norte-San Jerónimo, Sur-Copero and the Carambolo water purification station.

We interviewed Mr Juan Ignacio Ruiz Carrascal, who is the Manager of the EMASESA Control Centre in Sevilla.

What is EMASESA’s main function?

EMASESA, it manages the direct supply of water to Seville and for twelve other towns through delegation of their respective councils in that of Seville. The twenty-six townships located on the Seville Aljarafe are also supplied with untreated raw water.

In addition, it is also responsible for the Seville public sewer system as well as those for seven other towns. It purifies the waste water produced in Seville, together with that from two other towns, which involves almost 92% of the total processed water supplied to the users.

Have control, supervision and monitoring operation applications in the process measures, such as flow rate, level or alarms been integrated into the large screen display system?

The level of display integration in the control rooms is total, forming another operation post within the room, so that access is available to all control and supervision operational information.

What benefits have resulted from the installation of this display system with respect to control room operational capacity?

It provides us with a versatile tool integrated with the control SCADA, which permits the following;

* It use as another operation post with the added value of being able to provide the information from several screens at the same time, together with the possibility of displaying all current critical operation points on a single screen.

* It replaces the usual type of wall displays in this type of room, with real-time updating.

* It integrates video display functions.

* It can be expanded according to the growth needs of the actual system itself.

* Under crisis situations, it allows data to be analysed without any need to interfere with the work of control room personnel.

* It is of assistance in corporate presentations.

What made you decide on the video-projection solution provided by APLEIN INGENIEROS, S.A.?

The wall display covered our specific requirements and there were similar systems in continuous service, which provided the necessary proven experience for this type of installation, in which the manufacturer and installer are assessed.

Do you feel that that the installation of systems employing this same technology in other control rooms where requirements and operations are based on 24 hours a day and 365 days a year would be useful?

Yes, because it is very useful to have this type of tool available and because our experience provides a very high degree of availability. Technology evolves constantly, new products come onto the market and we search for whatever covers our requirements and improves existing equipment, not only in aesthetic aspects, but also reliability and availability.
