INTERVIEW WITH FRANCISCO JAVIER NEGRO MENÉNDEZ.
EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT AT THE UN-CHAMARTÍN OPERATION CENTRE
APLEIN
Ingenieros has supplied and installed multimedia equipment for the
control room and meeting room of the UN-Chamartín SITRA Operation
Centre
What is the purpose of the SITRA
control room?
The UN-Chamartín Traffic Control room is a division of the Operation
Centre, which is in turn part of the Operations Management Office.
From this room we control all the train movements initiated from
the control posts and stations, and traffic is co-ordinated when
substandard conditions are applicable. The main function of the
room is to inform the whole organisation of notable events in the
traffic and to warn of any circumstances that might affect us in
the course of traffic control operations.
What made you opt for the video
projection solution offered by APLEIN Inge-nieros?
As this is a public company, contracts are
awarded by a legal tender procedure. Once the various bids received
had been studied it was decided that Aplein was the right company
to do the job, to which the Operations Management Office attaches
great importance.
What are the immediate benefits for the
UN-Chamartín traffic unit?
At
the end of 2001 the need arose to equip the room with a more modern
display system that would increase its operational capacity and
improve the ergonomic parameters for those who work here 24 hours
a day, 365 days a year. For one thing, the Operation Centre is one
of the facilities most visited by our colleagues from other countries.
For another, as I said, we were concerned about meeting employment
rules on health and ergonomics at work, and to improve the Centre’s
technical performance.
What improvements have been brought by
the new design of the meeting room?
This new room enables us to hold all the
necessary meetings, and in particular those of the Management Committee,
without having to leave the building, which improves the dynamics
of our work.
