WIND FARM COMMUNICATIONS

Availability is a key factor in all power stations and this determines the overall profitability. Along these lines, it is essential to efficiently organise all operational and maintenance tasks for the station.

There is an additional difficulty in the case of wind farms, which is the extensive geographical area occupied by this type of facility. This requires a reliable communications network that enables correct monitoring, supervision and control, so that all wind turbine parameters can be tracked in real time, together with the most important variables associated with the farm’s substation and meteorological station.

The RFL IMUX 2000 multiplexor, with its reinforced design, is the ideal solution for the implementation of a communications network in this type of environment. It can be employed in signal transmission for the machines on the farm and for communications with the promoter’s offices by means of point-to-point multiplexed connections, with polling of several wind farms from a central application (over fibre optics or radio links).

The use of the IMUX 2000 on wind farms as part of a system based on SCADA architecture will permit the real time monitoring of variables from the wind turbines, meteorological stations, and substation, together with the recording of any alarms that are produced and log data tracking etc.
