10/07/2007 ÉXITO SÍ ........ SERGI SÍ. PROTECTION SYSTEMS FOR PREVENTING INCIDENTS IN TRANSFORMERS
The SERGI TRANSFORMER PROTECTOR is formed by several units that play different roles in the protection of a transformer: • The Depressurizing Unit prevents the transformer from bursting due to overpressures produced by an internal short circuit. • The Explosive Gas Extractor Unit is required for safety of the personnel since it prevents the bazooka effect caused by the explosive gases contacting the oxygen in the air on opening the transformer tank after the incident. • The Oil /Gas Trap Unit collects the mixture of oil and explosive gases after depressurization and separates them. The gases are then channelled to a remote area. The TRANSFORMER PROTECTOR is a passive mechanical protective device that can only be activated by the internal pressure level of the transformer tank during short circuits. This guarantees very high reliability since it is impossible to start it by accident. In the first few milliseconds of an electric arc created after an insulation failure in a transformer, a considerable volume of explosive gases is produced that results in a dynamic pressure peak that strikes the transformer violently with an acceleration possibly reaching 400G. This shock wave moves through the oil inside the transformer at the speed of sound. The peak pressure of this shock wave can reach a figure of up to 14 bar, which actuates the transformer depressurizing unit before the static pressure is increased inside the transformer tank and causes it to burst. List of some companies that have presently adopted these solutions. ![]() More news |
