OVERFILL PROTECTION
 With
TankRadar Rex or Pro, it is possible to have both overfill protection
and simultaneously use the gauge for continuous level measurements.
TankRadar Rex and Pro are approved as overfill protection devices
by TÜV (Technische Überwachungsverein) and have other
local overfill approvals as well.
This leads to cost savings as there is no need for two independent
systems - the gauge replaces a traditional Hi-Hi switch.
At the same time, environmental and economical advantages are gained
through spill prevention. TankRadar Rex and Pro are designed to
be 100% fail-safe. The outputs (relay or binary 4 or 20 mA) are
normally activated and will be deactivated when an alarm occurs.
Any fault in level measurement, power supply, internal hardware
or software automatically generates and alarm.
The alarm level is configured in set up. Since a TankRadar gauge
is tracking level continuously the status of the instrument can
be controlled on-line. This ensures that the instrument will work
properly if the level reaches the pre-defined Hi-Hi alarm value.
A traditional Hi-Hi switch (e.g. mechanical, capacitive, vibration,
ultrasonic) is activated only when the product level reaches a certain
point. To ensure proper function, regular manual testing is required.
In contrast, a TankRadar gauge provides safe and reliable overfill
alarm without requirement for calibration and regular manual testing.
TÜV Overfill Protection Approval
TÜV is a German testing authority responsible for testing overfill
protection equipment according to requirements stated by the German
WHG institute concerning water protection.
In 1999 TankRadar Rex and Pro received TÜV certificates for Overfill
Protection, meaning the two gauge models passed the comprehensive
reliability test comprising 10.000 overfill situations over the
whole temperature range (-40ºC to +70ªC). Proven instrument accuracy
and reliability are key factors to the TankRadar continuous level
measurement instrument approval for overfill protection.
Overfill Alarm Output
For TankRadar Pro, the secondary analog output is used for overfill
alarm. The active output is set to 20mA during normal operation
and switches to 4mA when a Hi-Hi alarm occurs. The primary output
is dedicated for continuous level measurements. By using an optional
external relay unit, relay outputs can be obtained.
